The school year is in full swing for some of us and around the corner for others. Either way, you need this cute calendar to keep you on task. Or just because it’s super cute and customizable to your taste…or whatever is trending on social media.
Let’s not procrastinate and get right to it!
Supplies Needed:
- Silhouette Studio®
- Printer
- Silhouette CAMEO®
- Silhouette Cutting Mat 12 x 12 inch
- Poster hanger or frame (optional)
Step One: Import Designs For Your Calendar
Decisions, decisions. What’s your current obsession? What catches your eye? When you narrow it down, let’s start designing.
1. Import the calendar design.
Now, you can certainly create your own calendar for every month if you’re feeling especially ambitious today. Or you can easily import this one like I did. (Design ID #168079)
This design is one you can ungroup and rearrange and customize. And last I checked it’s still 2017 so it’s perfect!
So, ungroup, move, and delete until you’re satisfied. I made some changes to get to this basic calendar setup.
2. Import cute designs!
The calendar, as is, is pretty boring, right? Well, let’s do something about that. I decided on the ever popular cactus, but with the thousands of choices available in the Silhouette Design Store, you’re sure to find something you like.
If you like cacti too, I will list the designs I used at the end of this post.
Step Two: Print And Cut Your Creation
I finished my calendar two ways because I’m keeping one and giving one away.
Option One: Print your calendar
I have a large format printer so I printed mine 12 in. x 18 in. You can size yours according to your printer or take it to a print shop.
The calendar is done at this point unless you want to frame it or make a quick poster hanger for it like I did.
I won’t go into detail about how I made the poster hanger, there are plenty of tutorials about that out there. But, I will say that it took me just a few minutes, and I cheated and taped the calendar to the back of the wood so I can switch out the calendar next year. Nobody knows but me. And now you, I guess.
Option Two: Print & Cut Calendar Cards
This is an adorable way to display a calendar as well!
Draw a box around each month. I used the Rounded Rectangle tool.
Turn on the Registration Marks to be able to utilize the Print & Cut feature. Choose “Type 1” for CAMEO® or Portrait®. Make sure to fit the calendar cards within the cut boundaries that show up on your design page.
After you have printed the design with the registration marks, your machine will read those when you send it to cut.
One of the handy features in Silhouette Studio® that I have grown to love is the ability to cut by line color found in the “Send” menu. I used this feature to “tell” my machine to cut just the color of the box I put around each month.
Otherwise, it would cut all the letters and numbers too and we don’t want that for sure.
Hang them or pin them to a cork board, or however you’d like. Now you’re ready for the school year! (I’m sure I don’t need to add that this would make a really great, homemade Christmas gift, too.)
What kind of calendar will you create?

How do you save it for a copy shop to be able to open and print it? I’m new to this.

If you have the basic edition and have a PDF printer (found with your printers, if you have it) or if you have Business Edition you can save it as a PDF. Usually copy shops have the ability to open a PDF file, but you would need to check with them. Make sure to save it with the registration marks and it needs to be printer at 100%, not borderless or something else. You also need to save the Studio file exactly as you saved/printed it as PDF so you can open it up and send it to your machine exactly as it was at the time of printing. I would do a test run with your copy shop on a simple black & white document and make sure it works with your machine before committing to a large colorful project. I hope that helps! Janet might have a different suggestion. 🙂

What Kelly said. 🙂 But you only need to print registration marks if you’re doing the calendar cards. The full-size calendar won’t need to be cut out after printing.

Is there anyway they can post a file to this so all we have to do is click on it and it opens up in our silhouette studio already done exactly like this?

My guess is that’s probably a no-go, Chelsey. The cactus and calendar designs are by different artists, therefore making it difficult to offer something like that.

Some of these cactus files are already set up for print & cut. Some just need to be filled with color and arranged, then they can be printed.
