We are very excited to tell you a little bit more about Silhouette artist Nic Squirrell. Nic is from a small village in the southeast of England and has been a featured artist in our Design Store since June 2014. Before Nic started designing professionally, her career was in a completely different field. “I trained and worked as an optician before returning to college to study art. I am now a full-time artist and illustrator.”

Nic loves to draw. Many of her designs are derived from her drawings. “I’m an optimistic and usually happy person, so my designs tend to reflect that.”

We asked Nic how she first heard about Silhouette. “A good friend told me about Silhouette, and I was amazed by all the things that could be done with their machines. I was very excited to be accepted as a Silhouette artist.”

“As well as designing for Silhouette, my illustrations are on many products, from art prints to phone cases, cards, bedding, yoga mats, and suitcases. My favorite things to paint or draw in any medium are birds and flowers.”

There are nearly 2,000 Nic Squirrell designs available in the Silhouette Design Store, and her specialty is intricate paper crafts. Her most popular designs are her paper lanterns and planner stickers.

When asked why she does what she does, Nic answered very enthusiastically, “I think creative people can’t not create! I’m lucky because I get to do what I love every day.” Nic’s advice to those who may be just starting out is, “Be curious. Keep learning new things. Draw every day.”
