Heat transfer is one of the most popular materials to cut with your Silhouette! Using heat transfer, you can design and create custom-made apparel, home décor, and so much more. Do you want to learn how to apply heat transfer material to your projects? Read below to find out how.

Supplies Needed:

1. Download and open the Sailboat Monogram Frame design (Design ID# 133442) in Silhouette Studio®. Ungroup light blue elements and delete circle. Place waves closer to the boat and weld them (to weld Select overlapping images and click the Weld icon in the Modify panel). Add desired monogram (Design ID #80334) in the middle of the circle and group everything together. Resize your design according the size of the tote you will use.

2. Load your heat transfer into your Silhouette with the clear plastic sheet (glossy side) down. Heat transfer material is lined, so if your piece is large enough, there is no need to use your cutting mat. But, if you have a smaller piece, place it on your cutting mat and load.

3. Before you send your design to your Silhouette, make sure to MIRROR IT. Don’t forget or else all of your text will be backward. The easiest way to mirror your image is to right-click your design and select “Flip Horizontally.”

4. In the Send panel, choose “Heat Transfer, Smooth” as your material, and manually adjust your blade to the recommended settings shown in the Action panel unless you use the AutoBalde. Send your design to your Silhouette.

5. Once your design is cut, unload it. Weed your design. (That is, peel off the extra heat transfer and leave your mirrored design on the clear backing.)

6. After the design is weeded, place it on your desired surface. Use an iron (or a heat press) to adhere the heat transfer. We recommend using a piece of light-weight fabric between the iron and the heat transfer.

7. Peel off the transfer sheet.

That’s it! If you placed it on something you are going to wear, make sure to turn the garment inside out when you machine wash it.
