The dual carriage of the Silhouette Cameo® 4 is a little bit different from the carriages from previous Silhouette machine models. Because of this, some of the older Silhouette tools won’t fit into the dual carriage of the Cameo 4 without a little help.
Included in the box of the Cameo 4 is a set of four tool adapters: blue, gray, black, and white. Below you’ll see which adapters are compatible with which tools.
You’ll notice that each tool adapter has the number 1 on it. This means that it can be used only in the left-hand carriage, which is carriage 1 or tool holder 1.
The Blue Adapter
The blue adapter is made to use with the Silhouette Sketch Pens*. Feel free to turn your Cameo 4 into a sketching machine with this tool adapter.
*Please note that only the Silhouette Sketch Pens with the black body (NOT the white body) will work in the tool adapter.
The Gray Adapter
The gray adapter is made to use with the Deep-cut Silhouette cutting blade.
The Black Adapter
The black adapter is made to use with the Standard (or Ratchet) Blade, the Premium Blade, and the Fabric Blade. Remember that if you choose to use the Fabric Blade, you must use a stabilizer with the fabric you want to cut.
The White Adapter
The white adapter is made to use with the 2mm Kraft Blade. While there is a different Kraft Blade that is compatible with the Cameo 4 only, the 2mm Kraft Blade can be used with the Cameo 3 and the Portrait 2. But an adapter is required to use the 2mm Kraft Blade with the Cameo 4.

I have a question regarding the sketch pens for the cameo 4. My dog chewed up my adapter set that came with my machine. Are there sketch pens designed for the 4 that do not require an adapter? If so, what body color are the pens, black or white and which holder do they go in, 1 or 2? I’m a newbie.

The new model of the sketch pens have the black body and require the adapter set to be used for the Cameo 4. The white sketch pens are the old model and have been or are currently being phased out. There are no sketch pens designed for the Cameo 4 that work without adapters, so those are necessary! The Sketch pens can only be used in Tool 1 of the Cameo 4.
