January 11: Making your First Cut with Silhouette

If you are thinking about purchasing a Silhouette machine, recently bought one for first time, or need a little help learning how to use yours better, this class is for you!
This free class will walk through the process of making a simple vinyl or paper based project from start to finish. Over the course of one hour, McKenna will show you how to find and purchase a file from the Silhouette Design Store, open and adjust the design in Silhouette Studio, and cut it out with your Silhouette cutting machine. You’ll be able to ask questions along the way as you follow along on your own machine at home. By focusing on the basics steps to use a Silhouette machine, you’ll have a head start on making more complex projects in the future!

watching beginners video and there was no extra blade in little side panel in my machine. How can I receive one that didn’t come with my machine?

Each machine comes with one cutting blade. That side panel was just showing a storage compartment for an extra blade. You may purchase additional blades here.

Hi Kelly
I would really like to see a class on how to manage files in the Library: create folders, move files to created new folders, delete extra copies of files, general organization of the Library, how files are downloaded to the
library. When I download some purchased SVG files they are in several folders, (labeled by color) is there a way to view the file in is complete form? So I know what it looks like. I hope this makes sense?
Maybe there is a tutorial already available on this? If so can you provide a link.

Ginger, managing the Library is a great class idea. I’ll see what I can do.
Regarding SVG files, there is not a way through Silhouette Studio to view the complete file without opening or reorganizing it yourself. I believe for Windows PCs you can install an extension that will allow viewing of SVG files, but you’ll have to do the research on that yourself to decide which program or extension you are willing to install.
If you have Silhouette Studio Designer Edition or higher, you can drag and drop multiple SVG files into a Silhouette Studio document, save it as a Studio document, and then you should be able to preview the thumbnail in Windows Explorer. You may want to reach out to the SVG designer to see if they can create or organize the files in a way that works better for you.
