We’ve got an update to share with all our users who have ever imported or saved external designs to their Cloud Library in Silhouette Studio. This is considered “custom user content” and is a benefit we provide that allows for sharing between devices that are synced to the Silhouette Cloud.

As of May 1, 2025, the 5GB benefit for custom user content will only apply to current Club Silhouette members and current Diamond-level Silhouette Design Store subscribers. This will be reduced to 1GB for all other users (see exceptions below). Designs purchased from the Design Store are not affected by the changes.

Here’s what you need to know.

Club Silhouette:

  • Customers who have canceled Club Silhouette will lose the 5GB benefit. It will be reduced to 1GB on May 1, 2025, unless they rejoin Club Silhouette before this date.

Silhouette Design Store (SDS):

  • Current subscribers as of March 31, 2025, who have more than 1GB will retain 5GB — as long as they do not cancel, no matter the level of subscription.
  • New SDS subscribers after April 1, 2025, will receive 5GB only if they purchase a Diamond Subscription.
  • Only the Diamond subscription at this time includes 5GB.
  • If a Diamond subscriber or anyone that is still receiving the 5GB benefit cancels, it will automatically be reduced to 1GB. Grandfathered users with more than 1GB who cancel must follow the new subscription offerings when they re-join.
  • Designs purchased from the Silhouette Design Store at any time are theirs to keep; they will not be affected by this change.

What you need to do:

We highly recommend that all customers export and back up your custom user content. User files will still be accessible on your own computer if you have exported them correctly.

How to Export User Made Designs:

  1. Log into your Silhouette account.
  2. Go to the Library.
  3. Click your name in the upper left corner.
  4. Select “Export User-Created Files.”
  5. Choose a location on your computer to save all your user-created content safely.

Note: Exporting user designs is available in Silhouette Studio v. 4.4.552 or higher.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is considered user-created content? Files you’ve imported into Silhouette Studio, files you’ve created and saved to your library, and anything saved to your library that was not purchased from the Silhouette Design Store. (Check your “User Designs” folder.)

If I am using less than 1 GB storage, do I need to export anything? No. However, we recommend all users export their user content to guarantee they have it saved on their own computer.

When I export user designs, it says it’s exporting a big number, but most of the folders are empty. Where are my designs? Exporting user designs will export your entire library structure with folders and subfolders, but Design Store purchases will not import–in order to protect artists’ content. User-created designs will be found in the “User Designs” folder by default, unless you have moved them into other folders throughout your library.

What about all the designs I’ve purchased through the Design Store? Designs purchased through the Silhouette Design Store at any time are yours to keep and are not affected by storage limits or subscriptions.

How do I know how much storage I am using right now? In Silhouette Studio, go to your Library, and check the lower left-hand corner of your screen (directly below all the library folders). “XX.X used” will tell you how much storage you are currently using. Keep in mind that the allowed GB (5.0 or 1.0) may change based on the circumstances described above as of May 1, 2025.

What’s the difference between Library Export and Export User-Created Files? Exporting your library is a full backup of the library to be used in special cases such as transferring to a new computer or accidental loss of the library. Designs cannot be individually accessed with a library backup except from Silhouette Studio. Exporting user designs saves only user-created/imported designs to your computer, which are available to access individually from your computer.

I’m international and can’t join Club Silhouette. How do I get the 5GB storage? International users who wish to take advantage of the 5GB storage can purchase a Diamond Design Store Subscription.

We hope this helps clarify your options for Silhouette cloud storage! Remember to export your user-created files today!
